Yoruba Oracle The Yoruba people live along the coastal area of western Africa, within the countries of Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Farming is their traditional way of life; they grow such crops as yams, maize, and cassava. Some seven million people speak the Yoruba language. Tribes include the Yoruba, Oyo, and Ibadan. The Yoruba have many deities, known as orishas, who are rooted in nature and could be compared to the pantheon of Greek deities. The religio-magickal system represents division into light versus dark, or good versus evil. Both the white orishas and the dark orishas are deities that have a natural human form. The white orishas or light deities, are usually cool and have life-giving energies (for example, Oshun is the goddess of rivers, marriage, and love). The dark orishas, on the other hand, are hot and exhibit their powers in war or in activities where blood is drawl (Oggun is the god of metal and war, for example). Some of the deites are Obatal.Aganyu (father of the orishas), Yemana/Onile (mother of the orishas), the lustful and passionate Chango, Egbe, Oloodumare, and Orangon. The Seashells or Caracoles is the name of the main divination system of the Afro-Cuban religion known as Santeria, which is a mixture of the beliefs and religious practices of Catholicism and the myths, the beliefs abd the magico-religious practices of the Yoruba people. The type of seashell used in this oracle is the small variety of gastropodous shell. the Cypranea moneta, which is used as money on the coast of Guinea in Africa and in many parts of Southern Asia. The shell is commonly known as the cowrie shell. To the Yorbuas it was extremely valuable and they used it, not only as a monetary unit, but also as the mouthpiece of their gods, better known as orishas.Among the Yoruba, the divination of the cowrie shells in known as Erindinlogun, and it is used principally by the worshippers of Chango. The cowrie shells used for divination are a type of small, elongated seashell with an opening on one side that resembles a tiny mouth. Through this "mouth" the orishas speak to the santeros. The smooth rounded backside of the cowrie is broken and filed flat, this is known as the "eye" of the shell, so the cowrie can land on either side for divination. This system is very complex. The oracle I am offering here is a simpler system that can be learned easily by anyone. The Yoruba Divination Oracle will contain the following items:16 specially prepared cowrie shells one laminated casting board printed instructions Seven African Powers Bead Necklace - This bead necklace can be worn by a man or a woman to help bring the energies of the Seven African Powers to guide you through your divination session
